How cool is this? History was made here. The history on the Oregon Trail and the Snake River flows right by Three Island State Park and Glenns Ferry. The three islands here were used as stepping stones by Oregon Trail travelers to cross the river and continue their journey west. Many miles and miles of wagon ruts and sagebrush from the trail can still be found on the plateaus above. With all this great history of course, there is an amazing place to visit and learn when coming to Glenns Ferry, the Oregon Trail Education and History Center at Three Island State Park. The exhibits tell the story of what happened here on the Oregon Trail. An event takes place each year on the 2nd Saturday in August where the re-create the historic crossing. Wagons with teams of men, women and horses make their way down from the plateau above and carefully across the three islands in the Snake River. The wagons and riders are escorted across by Native Americans.
